The former incarnation of the "Lusty Lady was "The Amusement Center" and was located up the street nearer the Pike Market. The then-manager June Cade said that such places do well in times of conservatism. I'm wondering how they doing in times of recession? The boutique next door had marked everything down by half and appeared to be going out of business. "Lusty Lady" is in the habit of satirizing the signs on the Seattle Art Museum across the street, but this time they echoed the sign next door.
Google did this for a week and we collected them all. They've appeared here and there on this blog for a few days.
For some strange reason, Google used different characters and pictures in some foreign countries, such as Belgium, Netherlands, Mexico, Israel, Phillipines and Indonesia. Here are some samples.
"Sesame Street Trashes POX NEWS" went viral - it's a two-year-old satirical video. Grundgetta, a female Muppet viewer, calls to complain that the content was not offensive enough “From now on, I’m watching Pox News, she says.” “Now there’s a trashy news show."
Big Hollywood, a blog created by conservative writer Andrew Breitbart, accuses the episode of revealing PBS's liberal slant.
"PBS — a network partially funded with my tax dollars — has the right to tell my kids that their parents watch “trashy” news?" he writes of the network that houses "Sesame Street." "The message is clear, I can’t even sit my kids in front of 'Sesame Street' without having to worry about the Left attempting to undermine my authority. "
Here it is again, in case you didn't see it.
Michelle Obama dropped by to talk about being tall, counting by tens and growing vegetables. Video will be added once it's up.
This is the wierdest yet. It comes from The Nation. Fascinating article - scary.
Huge Christian families. One 44 year old described in the article lives in Georgia and has eight children. A 39 year old form Kentucky has fourteen. Another has thirteen. Another is 27 and from Illinois and has only 4 children but plans "two teams." They like to call themselves "Quiverfull." This comes from Psalm 127: "Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver if full of them. They will not be put to shame when they content with their enemies in the gate." They are party of an army for God.
Other tenets: at least six children, homeschooling, father knows best, female submissiveness. There are probably at least 10,000 such families in the US. Birth control is considered the province of prostitutes and feminism is considered incompatible with Christianity.
"Health care in Israel is both universal and compulsory, and is administered by a small number of organizations with funding from the government. All Israeli citizens are entitled to the same Uniform Benefits Package, regardless of which organization they are a member of, and treatment under this package is funded for all citizens regardless of their financial means. According to a 2000 study by the World Health Organization, Israel has the 28th best health care in the world.[1]."
Steves is the real deal, says Doug Tarnapol of RI. We know that here in Seattle, as Rick hails from nearby Edmonds, so always glad to see him appreciated elsewhere!
Spending four months a year overseas, Rick Steves believes that thoughtful travel can expand our world view and shape how we address the political challenges that confront our country. This popular speaker returns to The Commonwealth Club to provide a unique perspective on how the other 96 percent of humanity views our country and why we should "challenge truths we were raised to think were self-evident" in order to become citizens of the planet.
Researchers discovered that French and German babies (60 were recorded) cry with the same "prosody" or melody used by their parents' language by the second day of life. French babies ended with an upward lilt at the end of their cry that was typical of French; German babies started off with an intense cry but it dropped at the end, more similar to the emphasis German adults put on a sentence.
